Position: Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Learning Assistant (MERL Assistant – Intern)

Terms of Duration: 6 months (possible extension)

Reporting Line: MERL Officer


Organizational Background


Youth Network for Positive Change -YOUNETPO is registered and accredited youth led civil society organization with over 9 years of experience working around key issues including peacebuilding, human rights and citizens access to justice, sexual reproductive health rights, health system strengthening, HIV/AIDS care, prevention and treatment, youth and climate change, youth and sexuality, youth capacity development, and civic engagements. Since its establishment in 2014, YOUNETPO has initiated several programs to empower women and girls through capacity building initiatives and leadership programs, advocate for women and girls’ rights and access to safe abortion, education, health care services and fostered political accountability to make elected leaders more accountable and responsive. These programs and projects have benefited over 10,000 Youths between the ages of 10-35 years; we have successfully implemented projects and programs in Montserrado, Margibi, Grand Bassa, Gbarpolu, Bong and Nimba Counties.


Position Summary

The YOUNETPO M&E Assistant will work closely with the MERL Officer, Technical Advisor and other team members to assist in the design, implementation, and management of the organization's Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Learning activities. The role will involve data collection, analysis, and reporting, contributing to evidence-based decision-making and program improvement.

Key Responsibilities

· Assist in the development and implementation of the organization's Annual Work Plan, and MERL framework, in line with established indicators and guidelines.

· Support the MERL Officer in designing data collection tools, surveys, and questionnaires for various projects and YOUNETPO internal activities.

· Participate in data collection exercises, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely submission of data on projects

· Conduct data entry, cleaning, and validation to maintain a reliable database.

· Assist in the analysis of quantitative and qualitative data, contributing to the preparation of MERL reports and presentations.

· Help track project progress against set targets and report on key performance indicators.

· Participate in monitoring field visits to assess project activities and document observations.

· Contribute to the identification of project implementation challenges and suggest potential solutions.

· Assist in organizing and conducting MERL-related capacity building activities for staff and partners.

· Support the coordination of external evaluations and assessments, as required.

· Assist in maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of MERL best practices and trends.

· Review institution annual workplan and advise on key actions and next steps

· Monitor and track staff weekly and monthly workplans

Reporting and Supervision:

The MERL Assistant will report directly to the MERL Officer and collaborate with direct oversight and supervision from the Technical Advisor; M&E and Programs.

Requirements

- Must have good communication skills

- Have at least 1-3 years of working experience as M&E within the NGO sector or other public sector

- Have experience in using Microsoft Word, Excel & Power Point

- Must hold a certificate/diploma in Monitoring and Evaluation from a reputable school

- Must be hold a high school diploma but having a degree is an added advantage

- Ability to multitask is an added advantage

- Be willing to travel to other counties as may be required
