YOUNETPO at Women Deliver Conference 2023

YOUNETPO’s Executive Director; Amb. Leo E. Tiah joined thousands of young leaders at the Women Deliver Conference 2023. Among other things, Mr. Tiah participated in the Youth Pre-Conference at Serena Hotel in Kigali, Rwanda. The Youth Pre- Conference was energized by great remarks from Maliha Khan, CEO and President, Women Deliver and a panel discussion with panelists such as: Rt. Hon. Helen Clark; Former Prime Minister of New Zealand, PMNCH Board Chair, and Women Deliver Board Member; Ishanvi Malayanil, Women Deliver Young Leader, Latanya Mapp Frett; President and CEO, Global Fund for Women, Jairo Rodrigues, Human Rights and Social Development Coordinator and Guyana; Women Deliver Young Leader.


Mr. Tiah also participated in the Official Opening Ceremony of the Women Deliver Conference 2023 at the Kigali Arena. The official opening of #WD23 saw remarks from the Women Deliver Board Chairperson, UN Women Executive Director and H. E. Paul Kagame; President of the Republic of Rwanda, which was followed by a high-level panel discussion consisting of the H.E. Mackey Sall; President of the Republic of Senegal, H.E Shale -Work Zewde; President of the Federal Republic of Ethiopia, UNFPA Executive Director and H.E Katalin Novak; President of Hungry. Mr. Tiah engage with some special guests from Liberia at the event including: Former President, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Madam Leymah Gbowee , Hon. Larry Younquoi; Representative District # 8 Nimba County, Hon. Williametta E. Saydee-Tarr; Gender, Children and Social Protection Minister of the Republic of Liberia.


USAID Liberia Civil Society Activity; Integration of Citizens Charters for Health Facility Development Committees

YOUNETPO officially launched the USAID/Liberia Civil Society Activity (CSA) project titled: "Integration of Citizens Charters for Health Facility Development Committees" in Montserrado at the headquarters of the Montserrado County Health Team office located in Duport Road Paynesville City and at the Phebee Hospital in Gbarnga Bong County. The events were attended by authorities from the county health teams including District Health Teams (DHTs); Health Facility Leadership/Officers in Charge (OICs); health-focused civil society and community-based organizations; CSA-supported CSOs and CBOs; and community health structures. The project was officially launched by Dr. Yatta Sackie Wapoe in Montserrado County and Masselly Jallah; County Health Director in Bong County.

As lead for the CSA RFA 5 coalition, YOUNETPO will implement key community driven programmatic strategies and interventions aimed to increase citizens’ participation in community health decision-making and management of public health facilities in communities. The project is being implemented by YOUNETPO in Montserrado and Bong Counties.


The USAID Liberia Civil Society Activity (CSA) is a five-year program funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by DAI Global LLC (DAI). CSA aims to strengthen Liberian civil society organizations (CSOs) to effectively engage their constituents to contribute to decision-making processes and oversee government actions. The purpose of this activity is to strengthen Liberians’ ability to advocate for policy reforms, policy implementation, and service delivery through multi-stakeholder coalitions that build feedback loops among government, CSOs, and citizens.


Advancing Liberia Security Sector Accountability and Public Trust Project (ASSAPT)

With funding from the U.S. Department of State: Bureau of Intl Narcotics & Law Enforcement (INL) through the The Carter Center Liberia, YOUNETPO in collaboration with the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS), Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency-Ldea (LDEA) and the Liberia National Police (LNP) held a one-day coordination meeting each at Cary Street, Central Monrovia, Montserrado County and at Guinea Border Community, Ganta City, Nimba County with community stakeholders represented by traditional, religious leaders, youth and women leaders. The purpose of the meeting was to raise awareness about the existing complaints and commendation mechanisms at LIS, LDEA & LNP and identify ways of citizens’ engagement. The coordination meeting also helps to improve coordination and information sharing among key actors involved in addressing citizens’ complaints.


YOUNETPO Executive Director visit Accra, Ghana

Executive Director Amb Leo E Tiah visited Accra Ghana as part of a five days working visit. The aim of the visit was to engage with key civil society organizations with a goal to establish and strengthen existing partnership. While in Ghana, the Executive Director visited and met with representatives of the West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI) and the Parliamentary Network Africa.


YOUNETPO Back-to-School Initiative

As part of our 2023 back-to-school initiative, we commence the distribution of Reading and Activity Books for Grade 1 and 2 to selected schools in Montserrado County. A total of 20 book bags were distributed to 20 high ranked students, 151 pieces of Reading and Activity Books for Grade 1 and 2 were distributed. Also, 270 pieces of visual learning materials including; the Map of Africa, Political Map of the World, animals’ recognition and clock for time telling were distributed. The beneficiary schools include: The Brighter Learning Primary School located at Central Keyhole Old Road, Christ Foundation located at 12th Street Sinkor, Mother Victoria Christian Academy, Upper Rockhill, Brighter Future Academy, Lower Kissi Camp, GSA Road and Rebecca Academic Center of Excellence located on 13th Street Coleman Avenue, Sinkor Monrovia.


International Safe Abortion Day 2023

YOUNETPO organized a one-day dialogue in commemoration of the International Day of Safe Abortion. The event was held at Sinkor Palace Hotel and brought together representatives of women led and youth-led organizations working on #SRHR issues in Liberia. The event was organized under the local theme: "Choice is a Human Right".


6th Annual Youth Education and Leadership Conference 2023- Buchanan City

The 6th Annual Youth Education and Leadership Conference, organized by Youth Network for Positive Change (YOUNETPO), was held at the K-Plaza Hotel in Buchanan City, Grand Bassa County, from July 27th to July 29th, 2023. The three-days event brought together youth leaders, health practitioners, educators, and change-makers from across Liberia and West African to identify challenges youth face in the areas of Education, Health, Gender Equality, Environment, Peace and Security and foster learning, networking and collaboration. The 6th AYEAL conference was organized under the theme: “Grooming Young Leaders into Advancing Peace and Security in Africa”. The brought together 100 delegates from five African Countries including: Liberia, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Gambia and Nigeria. The Keynote speaker of the conference was Hon. Abdoulie Njai; a member of the Gambia Parliament, Representative to the Banjul Central constituent spoke on the topic; Adherence to the rule of law: A foundation to a sustainable democracy in Africa. A total of 50 persons inclusive of 33 males, 12 females with 5 Facilitators attended and participated in the 6th edition of the AYEAL conference.
